MTV Cafe

MTV Rationale :

MTV is a current music brand which has rocked television from the day they ‘killed the radio star’ with music video recordings.

The brief is to re-design MTV’s social space/cafe area in the London studios based in Camden Town - Hawley Crescent. The current social space is simple with minimal seating and little graphic design, I hope to make it more inviting and comfortable for visitors, functions and Meetings with potential clients.

I have researched the history of MTV and how it has developed from the 1970’s.
Not only is this company extremely successful, consumers have very high expectations for this ever growing music phenomenon, therefore I intend to exaggerate its greatness through my design in their social space.

My target audience is young music artists and the staff of MTV studios.
This design will reflect the trend of new artists as well as using nostalgic themes to enhance the ‘retro’ themes of Camden town.
Primary sources demonstrated to me that the studios are undergoing reconstruction of the exterior build.
After Looking at the plans of the new theme, and colour schemes I have decided to use elements within my design to relate the tone and stance of the MTV building.

Concept:
Theme-
MTV was the first American cable channel to produce music videos.
I intend to create a design which is reflective on music as a whole, from where it originated and where it is today modernised.
My aim is to captivate the audience and draw them into this space for coffees, meetings and general functions.
The theme of my design is nostalgic and current in order to welcome local artists and visitors as well as possibly well known music idols and MTV associates.
Structure-
The main feature of this space will be a structured aluminium recored arm- influenced by the Thorens 160 model, it will be self supportive and elevated 3 meters along the wall with the Bar and 3 anechoic chambers underneath for separate seating areas.

The anechoic chambers will be a cylinder shape in coherence with the circular tubes of the aluminium arm, I have decided to use this style of booth as they will be a great way to divert excess noise from the space so that meetings can be as private as possible without having to use doors and create different rooms.
These cylinders will be in the colours or Red,Orange and Yellow to compliment the new structure of MTV’s Studio construction “in progress”
by Morgan Sindall.
Anechoic chambers are used frequently in recording studios to captivate sound easily, not only does it have an interesting texture and feel, it is music related and if used in the right way will be aesthetically pleasing to the consumer.
