This is the Glaze studio, where all the oxidants and equipment is kept to create and test new colours for the pots.
This is a sieving technique used to create the paste to place onto the pot before it is fired in the kiln. The sieving has to be accurately measured with the right amount of water to make sure the consistency is right to paint onto the pots. This takes a lot of arm strength as the substance is extremely thick.

This is one of the tests used for new combination of glaze colours, the round sphere is so that we can see how the glaze appears on a round curved surface, and the tray is to catch any left over glaze as not to make a mess in the kiln.
The patterned 'eyes' which is what I call them are to look at the glaze on a small surface texture.
These are some clay tests I created.
Drip trays are used to catch any left over glaze as not to spoil the kiln.
The Kiln itself.

Kate Commissioned me to design her some stickers with her most popular designs, and also her logo.
This is the final outcome, as you can see I have used the design below and manipulated it into various pastel colours to ensure a variety amongst the design.
Producing the stickers and developing the designs on photoshop have developed my knowledge on Adobe software- we intend to develop these designs further to have more of a variation- possibly in coherence with future projects.

Logo Initial Ideas

These are some initial logo designs. The signature was scanned in and the images i edited in Illustrator before transferring them into photoshop, i had to ensure the quality was great enough to use the imagery at all sizes.
I have never used illustrator before so this was a challenge, i have found that all the Adobe programmes are similar and using a combination of them really helped me visualise my designs.
Kate has her own style with her sketches and plans for her pots,  finding a way to link her work with my graphic design style without losing touch of either style was crucial for the final outcomes.
The best way i find to overcome this problem is to brainstorm a mixture of my ideas and compositions and then we will have a meeting for an hour everyday to explore new concepts and development. once we had reached a educated design decision, Kate will then draw the idea out in her style for me to scan and edit into the logo and numerous other tasks i have been briefed to do.
These daily critiques are extremely helpful and i greatly value her expert opinion as this filed of design is completely new to me.

Letter Press Logo

The Letter press logo is something I would really like to do for Kate's business, as she is a 3D ceramist i think it would be really fitting to have an embossed logo which feels more professional sometimes than a flat 2d image.
This is the final signature we have come up with which we shall consistently use throughout the design development of each brief.
It is a hand written signature in a medium black fine liner in which i have developed on illustrator for the quality of pixels.
Every artist has there own mark, whether it be a picture, a sign or a name. This design element must always be clear and legible and flow with the artwork of the designer themselves- representation of character.
Kates designs are beautiful, mainly pens and paint to create a layered yet transparent feel with enough body to demonstrate the 3D aspect.
The logo I am creating has to reflect on these key points.

Business Card Design

This is one of my business card initial ideas using photoshop and a developed edited drawing of kate's combined to create a ceramic artistic feel.
I really like the colours and brush strokes, however we decided that we need a more contemporary style and more legible typography.
Designing these business cards enabled me to think about my own promotion of design and how I want to appeal when I meet a potential client.
This project has made me think about which direction I want to take my style of work and how I will succeed by selling my ideas in an appropriate manner.
The alignment and spacing of the typography has to compliment the image, it has to be clean sleek and professional as Kate is such a well known ceramist and commissioned such large important projects, for example the new glaze and tiling on the Saville Row build.

Scale

This image is to demonstrate the larger scale of some of the pots.

Pots

These are some secondary images of Kate's Pots raw and in glazed form.
I have used some of these images as visual business cards.
We decided that it would be a good idea to have images on the cards so that customers or potential clients would remember her work.

Business Card Development

The development of the business cards were extremely important as Kate has
a very particular style of work which we wanted to be perceived immediately
through the cards as its the product which she will potentially be remembered by. This development enabled me to keep going over my designs to make amendments which was a really important learning curve as the client must always be happy with the outcome.
I contacted a few printing companies however we decided to first use moo-cards to print the first 100 cards to test the designs to scale on the right depth and style of paper.

Final Email Footer

This is my final design for Kate's Logo and email footer.
She asked me to create something illustrative along with her hand written signature.
Kate has always signed her pots with her signature therefore it is important to be included in her identification graphics, for recognition purposes.

Blackberry Design

This image is a black fine liner drawing created by Kate Malone and then- re-drawn on illustrator.
